Prof. K. V. G. D. Balaji is a Distinguished Professor and former Registrar of GITAM University. He has done B. Tech from NIT, Warangal in 1983, M. Tech from NIT Kurukshetra in 1987 and Ph. D from Andhra University in 2000. He has 6 Indian Patents (Published) and published more than 150 papers (out of which more than 70 are in Scopus Indexed Journals) in National, International Journals and Conferences. He has successfully completed 7 DST and UGC supported research projects.

He has experience in teaching undergraduate and post graduate students related to Civil Engineering for more than 35 years in GITAM and Andhra University Evening Students batches. Seven students have completed their Ph. D, 1 from Andhra University and 6 from GITAM University under his guidance and 10 students are at various stages of completion. He is a reviewer for a number or prestigious SCI indexed and Scopus indexed journals. He has successfully completed more than 120 consultancy assignments belonging to central government and state government, Public Sector units and Private Sector units. He published 4 books on civil engineering particularly on structures and visited Japan in connection with presenting a paper in an international conference. Besides English and Telugu his mother tongue, he is acquainted with Japanese language (Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji) and other Indian languages Hindi, Urdu and Odia.

He is a Licensed Structural Engineer in GVMC, GHMC & VMRDA and an active Member of Bureau of Indian Standards (CED57). He is a member of various professional societies such as ISTE, Institute of Engineers, Indian Road congress, Indian society for Remote Sensing and Institute of Valuers.

He served as Head of the Department (6 May 2004 - November 2007), Member - Board of Studies of Andhra University ( Oct 2004 – Oct 2007), Chief Superintendent of A.U. Examinations and GITAM University Examinations, Chairman – Board of Paper Setters, SV University, Tirupati, Chief Warden of GITAM Hostels (Boys & Girls) (June 2000 – March 2007), Director – Research (October 2007 – October 2008), Director - Student Affairs (October 2008 – November 2009, Director–Consultancy Projects and Collaborations (Aug 2015-Dec 2018), Member Building Committee of Krishna University, and several other positions before taking up as Registrar (Jan 2019 -Sept 2020) of GITAM University.

During his tenure he successfully led the Department and University in various capacities towards accreditation of NBA, NAAC, MCI and NMC. His date of birth as per records is 20 June 1962, became professor in September 2001 (ratified by Andhra University) and Distinguished professor in Jan 2020. He is presently working as Director-RGUKT, Srikakulam Campus.
